  01、君诚3D数字打印课程简介 3D Digital Printing becomes a reality for Students at SIBS

  在现代产品设计和工程领域,使用3D打印机生成3D原型正在成为一种主流。在君诚,参加周二ASA课程的学生一直在学习如何创建自己的3D数字模型,并使用最新的3D打印机将其转换为现实生活中的3D模型。 在Ken Brady老师的精心指导下,来自3-5年级的学生们一直在发展他们的数字设计技能。从Paint.NET开始,学生首先使用自己名字的字母作为艺术符号创建2D图像,并添加了一个边框来设计钥匙环。下一步是使用名为Tinkercad的程序,需要学生导入他们的设计文件,并将深度或厚度添加到他们的模型。现在,他们终于可以看到他们的钥匙环设计变成了3D数字模型。在打印前的最后阶段,学生将3D模型导入一个名为Curra的软件中,用于创建最终产品。 君诚的STEM实验室拥有先进的3D打印机,每个模型的打印时间需要大约1小时。在第一次课上,超过一半的学生就已经完成了第一个 3D 模型。未来,他们还将进行一系列有趣的设计,包括儿童玩具、汽车模式、航空航天设计等。

  In the modern world of product design and engineering, where 3D prototypes are now generated with a 3D printer, the students participating in the After-School-Activity on Tuesdays have been learning how to create their own 3D digital models and then turn them into real life 3D models using the school’s new 3D printer.

  Under the careful instruction of Mr Ken Brady, 17 students have been developing their digital design skills, learning how to use a range of 2D and 3D software programs. Starting with Paint.NET, students began by creating a 2D image using the letters of their name asartistic symbols. They applied their understanding of layers to ensure all the letters touched and added a border to design a keyring. Then, using their knowledge of file types, they converted their finished JPG file into an SVG file using an online conversion tool.

  The next step was to use a program called Tinkercad, where students imported their SVG file and added depth or thickness to their model. Now they could finally see their keyring designs turning into 3D digital models. Students scaled their models to ensure they would be an appropriate size and then exported them as an STL file. Then in the final stage before printing, students imported their 3D digital models into a software program called Curra, where they learned how to slice it into the hundreds of layers that the printer would use to create the final product.

  Exporting their finished project out as GCODE and saving it to a tiny SD card, the finished models were taken to the new 3D printer located in the STEM Lab for printing. With each model taking a little over 1 hour to print, over half the class have finished their first 3D model. Mr Ken has been overseeing the prints and you can see a selection of them here.

  The skills and knowledge that the students are learning is preparing them for the enormous range of jobs that involve prototyping of 3D products, all the way from children's toys to aerospace design for the cars and rockets of the future. As students continue in the project, they will be learning a range of 3D modeling, printing and computer skills, with the next project involving students learning how to sculpt a 3D character using a program called Sculptris. They will be able to design, model and now print their 3D character projects all at school using our new 3D printer.

  为了打破成语故事教学的静态模式,更好地激发学生学习成语故事的动力,小学部二、三年级本周举行了猜成语故事比赛。比赛很好的引导了学生使用他们的想象来进一步猜测故事的情节,用“对号入座”的方式,让成语故事教学变得生动活泼起来。

  To break the static pattern of idiom word story teaching and better motivate students to learn idiom word stories, the second and third grades of primary schools held a story guessing contest this week. The competition is perfect for guiding students to imagine guessing the plot of the story, with the "number to the seat" way to make idiom story teaching lively.

  中学生该如何利用好作业外的空闲时间?

  Head of School's Column: How should MSHS students spend their free time after homework?

  君诚中学部要求学生们每天必须阅读45-60分钟的英语阅读材料(包括书籍、RAZ-kids、BrainPOP),家长应该对学生每天阅读的情况有所监督。

  同时,君诚提供了许多课外活动,比如数学类(北美驯鹿数学竞赛,AMC),ICT类(ACSL),英语类(学术写作比赛),艺术类(学乐艺术比赛)等。每项课外活动都为学生提供了课堂外的延伸学习机会和挑战,如果学生在家里的空闲时间比较多,家长可以鼓励学生参与这些竞赛类的扩展学习。

  中学生们应该继续在非学术领域(表演艺术、乐器、视觉艺术、辩论、公开演讲、创造性写作)发展培育自己的才能,学校一贯强调此类学习的重要性,并一再向家长们重申。如果学生在家里的空闲时间比较多,请鼓励学生积极参与才艺和创意方面的活动参与。例如,学校目前有辩论俱乐部和MUN(模拟)俱乐部。在寒假,学校也会推荐学生参加辩论冬令营和MUN(模拟)比赛。

  认真阅读课本也是很重要的家庭作业,有助于学生全面涵盖所学的知识领域。我们知道,知识掌握有多个层面,听懂课堂和会做作业仅仅是学习认知九层塔中的第二第三层(第一层是留心听讲)。 第四层、推演所学; 第五层、举一反三; 第六层、活学活用; 第七层、总结归纳; 第八层、融会贯通; 第九层、无懈可击; 后面这些认知的境界和层面,全靠学生从认真阅读课本,深入理解和钻研做起。 对于9年级及以上的学生,我们鼓励他们在完成课业之余挤出时间来,在线自学Khan(可汗)学院或许多其他的MOOC(慕课)课程,以及自学AP课程,并准备参加明年5月份举行的AP考试。 对于10年级及以上步入准备出国标准化考试轨道的同学,每天投入作业外1.5-2小时准备这些标化考试是很有必要的。 一个善于反思总结联想的思维才是一个高效的思维,这就是所谓的学霸们最公开但也看似最难偷师的秘密。因为,要做到利用好作业外的空闲时间,需要一名孩子在走上中学轨道上开始学会将学习与生活融为一体,在生活中体会学习,在学习中找到生活的乐趣。所谓的学霸不过是普通的学子时时刻刻都感受到学习的生活乐趣而已。让我们共同理解这点,也让更多的君诚学子成为优秀的学生!

  Students are required to read 45-60 minutes of English reading materials (books,raz-kids, brainpop) every day; Parent shall have seen students engaged inreading everyday.

  SIBS has provided a number of co-curricular activity to go with Math (Caribou, AMC), ICT (ACSL), English (Scholastic Art and Writing Contest), Art (Scholastic Artand Writing Contest); each of these co-curricular activity provides students with extended learning opportunity and challenge outside of classroom; Parent can encourage students to participate in these extended learning if students have much free time at home;

  M.S. students shall continue to develop their talents in non-academic area (performing art, music instruments, visual art, debate, public speaking, creative writing). The school has consistently emphasize such importance. The school has also informed parents many opportunities for such. If students have too much free time at home, please encourage students to engage with such enrichment learning. For example, the school currently has debate club and MUN club. In the winter break, there is well organized camp for debate and MUN.

  Finally, read the textbook. Comprehension for lesson learned happened in many levels. Read the textbook helps students to cover the knowledge area comprehensively. When there is much free time beyond doing the required work, push oneself to read the textbook.

  For Grade 9 and above, we encourage students have free time beyond required learning, to engage with Khan Academy or many other MOOCs to self study AP courses and prepare to AP exams that comes in May.

  04、中学艺术设计部本周综述 Middle School Art Design Department

  This Week , the sixth and seventh grade course is the master painting creativity, with points, lines, planes for the painting language performance, to produce a new picture style. The eighth and ninth grade continues creativity activities using apple as a start point. It builds an association with three kinds of graphics. Make visual ideas through the topics you give. Examine the creativity and imagination of sketch thinking. The 10th grade course is a creative self-portrait to understand yourself as a starting point for creating.

  05、四年级读书分享会及作品欣赏 Grade 4 Reading sharing and student's assignments

  书籍就像一只船,它能载我们遨游知识的海洋。四年级近期开展了“读书分享会”活动,学生们用自己的话给大家介绍自己喜欢的书,并亲自设计,用图文并茂的海报展现出来。孩子们讲的故事,做出的作品都很精彩又各具特色。

  The fourth grade recently launched a "Reading-sharing" campaign. Students use their own language to introduce their favorite books, and their own design, with graphic and rich posters to show. The children tell stories and make wonderful distinctive works.

  06、学校期中家长会 SIBS parent's meeting

  本周,全校举行了1对1的期中家长会。家长们通过与老师的沟通,了解了学生的MAP测试成绩(2-10年级),在班级中的学术成绩,阅读和写作方面的优点和不足,以及在学校的行为习惯和社交。老师们也给出了自己非常诚恳的建议。

  This week, the whole school held a one-on-one mid-term parent meeting. Through communication with teachers, parents learned about students' test scores of MAP (grades 2-10), academic performance in the class, the strengths and weaknesses of reading and writing, and behavior and social interaction at school. The teachers also gave their own very sincere advice.

  07、鼠疫疫情预防措施 Preventive Measure for Pneumonic Plague

  由于最近在北京报告的两例内蒙古来京患者肺炎鼠疫疑似死亡病例,君诚学校现启动了以下预防措施: 1)温度异常在摄氏37.5度以上的学生,请勿上学,或将召集家长立即接回家中; 2)教师如发现身体不适或怀疑发烧的学生立即送往医务室; 3)放学后不要在教室里放食物,因为这可能引发鼠患; 4)食品服务和物流部门清理可能吸引老鼠的区域或仓储; 肺鼠疫由受感染的啮齿动物传播。目前鼠疫爆发的风险仍然很低。学校将继续监视情况,并保持警惕,留意进一步报告类似案件和政府部门指示。

  Due to two recent reported case of pneumonic plague death cases in Beijing for the two patients from Inner Mongolia, SIBS has activated our prevention protocol as follows:

  1) Students with an abnormal temperature equal and above 37.5 degree Celsius shall refrain from coming to school, or will be returned home immediately;

  2) Teachers shall direct students appearing in discomfort and suspecting having fever to nurse office as soon as identified;

  3) Do not leave food in classrooms after school as that might attracts rodents;

  4) Food service and logistics department has been notified to clean up the areas or storage that might attract rodents;

  Pneumonic plague is spread by infected rodents. At this point, the risk of an outbreak remains low. The school continues to monitor the situation and remains alert to any further reports of similar cases and directive from the local authority. Your cooperation is appreciated.
